Coolness fills my ears, caresses my face. My body is buffeted about like a dog’s play toy, and I float suspended between the darkness below and light that penetrates the water’s surface. I blink and feel the coolness in my eyes, trying to focus in the thick, translucent bluegreen water. Bubbles crawl up my body, gurgling as they tickle my legs before they shoot skyward, undulating silver edges reflecting the sun. A wave groans in the distance followed by the thud and clunk of tumbled rocks. Until finally, all is quiet. I float weightless, embraced by liquid. I am content. Feel no need to breathe.
